This Means War

Directed by McG, this is a movie about two of CIA’s top agents, Foster (played by Chris Pine) and Tuck (played by Tom Hardy)  who are the best friends. No, seriously, they’re like the Holmes and Watson, Lennon and McCartney, and all the other inseparable buds. It was all brotherly love between them, until they found out that they are dating the same woman, Lauren Scott (played by Reese Witherspoon).

I would describe the movie as, probably what couples would watch on dates. It was funny, I’ll give them that. But it was like watching two action dudes attempting to make a romantic-comedy movie work. I liked Chris Pine in Star Trek, and I most definitely loved Tom Hardy in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Inception, but this was just painful.

Also, the movie was a bit predictable. After about 15 or 20 minutes, you would already probably guess how it will end. The fight scenes, not very exciting. I would have loved it if the final few fight scenes was filled with the much needed adrenaline rush.

Although, I appreciated the British humour Tom Hardy provided. The film avoided the cheesy American rom-com lane, and it made the film okay to watch.

The relationship between Hardy’s and Pine’s characters were fun to watch. You kind of forget that they are fighting each other for the girl’s affections, anyone would be drawn to the platonic kind of love the two have for each other, and that was awesome.

I’ll give it a 3 of 5. And I would actually recommend it, I was entertained, maybe you would be, too.
