Movie Marathon, anyone?

Finally! New movie trailers have come out, new movies to look out for. Some have already shown in other countries, but for the benefit of my Filipino friends and other countries where the movies have not been released, well, we’re in for a treat.

The Hunger Games

Directed by Gary Ross and stars Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark and Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne which will be released on March 23, 2012. The great thing about the release of the trailer is probably the gifs that the fans will make. If you have Tumblr, all the scenes from the teaser trailer have already been exhausted to the point where some are just picking out random scenes from different movies where said actors are in and just put captions from the book on it. It was very amusing, I have to say, but this trailer would give them another thing to work with.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

This one I was really looking forward to. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law comes back as one of the most beloved characters, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. This time they will be joined by Stephen Fry as Mycroft Holmes and Jared Harris as Professor Moriarty. The film is directed by Guy Ritchie and will be released on the 16th of December.

The Avengers

I think this one is just a Teaser Trailer, but watching it was still amazing. The movie will be about the S.H.I.E.L.D bringing together a team of superhumans to save the Earth from outside forces. It will star Robert Downey Jr. as Ironman, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. It is directed by Joss Whedon and will be released on May 4, 2012.

Mirror, Mirror

There are two movies that will be released that is about the famous children’s fantasy tale Snow White. This one stars Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen, Lily Collins as Snow White, Armie Hammer as Prince Andrew Alcott and Sean Bean as The King. I would just like to comment on the fact that Sean Bean is yet again playing a character who will eventually die in the movie. I’m beginning to think that he is actually pretty much used to it that he kind of expects every time now. Anyway, this one is directed by Tarsem Singh and will be released on March 16, 2012. Judging by the trailer, I would say that this is the comedy version between the two Snow White movies.

Snow White and the Hunstman

If the first one is a comedy, this one is a lot darker, and very serious. It stars Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen, Kristen Stewart as Snow White, and Chris Hemsworth as the Hunstman. It is directed by Rupert Sanders and will be released on June 1, 2012. If I were to be asked which one I like just based purely on the trailer, it would be this one. But hey, I think it was just because of Charlize Theron, she was really good.

Immortals

From the creators of 3oo comes a story about Theseus, a mortal man chosen by Zeus to fight King Hyperion. It is also directed by Tarsem Singh and stars Henry Cavill as Theseus, Mickey Rourke as King Hyperion, Freida Pinto as Phaedra and Luke Evans as Zeus. I think this film has been released already in some countries, unfortunately our showing date is later than most countries. I think the Philippines should expect this movie next year.

The Raven

Directed by James McTeigue and stars John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe, Luke Evans as Detective Emmett Fields, and Alice Eve as Emily. The movie is about a serial killer whose murders mirrors the Poe’s stories. It will be released on March 9, 2012. This will be a really interesting movie to watch just because it is plain fiction. I remember the book “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” when I saw the trailer because writers were able to create new stories that they have incorporated to these two historical figures.

P.S.
If you haven’t read the book, Poe was also mentioned there and was said to have interviewed vampires.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn

I used to watch this when I was a kid, and finally it was made into a movie. The movie is directed by Steven Spielberg, and written by Steven Moffat and Edgar Wright, so really, what more can you ask for. The movie stars Daniel Craig as Ivanovich Sakharine, Jamie Bell as Tintin, Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock, Simon Pegg as Inspector Thompson and Nick Frost as Thomson. It is basically about a treasure hunt for a ship Haddock’s ancestor used to own. I am actually quite excited about this movie and just completely looking forward to it. Again, I understand that it was already released in other countries, I think our show date will be next month (fingers crossed!)

Underworld Awakening

The movie is about the discovery of the existence of Vampires and Lycans, and Humans plan on destroying them leading to a war. Kate Beckinsale reprises her role as the vampire Selene, and is directed by Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein. It will be released on the 20th of January 2012.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

Unexpected sequel, I have to say. Johnny Blaze aka Ghost Rider head on to Europe to stop a devil who is trying to take human form. It stars Nicholas Cage as Ghost Rider, Idris Elba as Moreau, and Ciaran Hinds as the Devil. The movie is directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor and will be released on February 12, 2012.

The Amazing Spiderman

The movie is about a teenage Peter Parker struggling with his new found powers plus his own personal problems. It stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker aka Spiderman, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as May Parker, Martin Sheen as Ben Parker, Denis Leary as George Stacy, and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors aka The Lizard. It is directed by Marc Webb and is set to release on July 3, 2012. What I like about this is that we finally get to see Peter’s parents, and that we are exposed to different sets of characters.

The Dark Knight Rises

The third and last installment of the Batman movie series. Christian Bale reprises his role as Batman, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon, Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, and Tom Hardy as Bane. Directed by Christopher Nolan and will be released on July 20, 2012. Of all the DC movies tha have come out, probably only the Batman series was able to really attract movie goers and actually like the movie. Definitely this franchise has not disappointed fans, and I am very sure this last one would really be worth it.

Ready the wallets and line up at the snack stands! Camp outside if you have to (no seriously, if you really have to :D ) and enjoy the movies!
